How to become a Police-officer ?

           Direct entry as a police personnel in the department in India is possible at four levels :
          
           1)  As Indian Police Service(IPS) officer.
           2)  As Deputy Superintendent of Police.
           3)  As Sub-inspector of Police.
           4)  As constable.

As an IPS officer :

         One can join Indian Police Services as an IPS officer through exams conducted by Union Public Service Commission. The exam is conducted every year.Union Public Service Commission allots IPS to candidates appearing in the exam as per their merit list. The cadre (state in which selected candidate will provide his services as an IPS officer) is provided by Union Government.
       The state police officers who join as Deputy-superintendent of Police or lower are also promoted to the Indian Police Services according to the rules and regulations of the states and Union Government.
Eligibility criteria :
Age : 30 years
Qualification :Graduation

As Deputy-superintendent of Police :


          One can join police services as Deputy Superintendent of Police through a competitive  exam state public service commission. The exam is conducted once in a year.
Eligibility criteria :
Age :...... year
Qualification :Graduation

As Sub-inspector of Police :


         Sub-inspectors in the police department are selected directly through a competitive exam conducted by state government .
Eligibility criteria :
Age : 26 years
Qualification : Graduation

As Constable :


        One can join police department as a constable through police department. The recruitment of constables is done at District level and vacancies are allotted as per ratio of population of District.
Eligibility criteria :
Age 23 years
